Sources Policy

The manufacturer's own website, technical specification page and official press release are the starting point for prices, variants, dimensions, warranty terms and headline performance claims. We record the URL and the date accessed alongside every figure taken from this category. Manufacturer marketing copy is not treated as an independent source for performance claims (for example, range and charging time) — it is labelled as a manufacturer claim.

Central-government schemes (for example, PM E-Drive), state EV policies, GST notifications and road-transport rules are cited from the relevant Ministry, department or state notification, with the notification number and date. Where a scheme is summarised on Top10EV, the notification prevails over the summary.

Passenger-vehicle safety ratings are drawn from the assessment publication of Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP. Where an assessment has been published, Top10EV links to it and records the assessment date. Manufacturer safety claims that are not backed by a recognised assessment are not treated as safety ratings on Top10EV.

Certified range figures under the Modified Indian Drive Cycle (MIDC) are drawn from the ARAI homologation publication or, where the ARAI publication is not directly linkable, from the manufacturer's regulatory filing that references the ARAI test. WLTP figures, where cited, are drawn from the manufacturer's regulatory or European homologation source.

For technical fields not covered by the manufacturer's marketing page — for example, VIN/type-approval identifiers, or notified subsidy caps — Top10EV relies on the applicable regulatory publication.

Where a market or infrastructure figure (for example, the count of operational public DC chargers) is drawn from an industry report or a public dashboard operated by an agency such as the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, or Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Top10EV cites the report and the date accessed. Industry statistics are labelled with the source and, where the source updates rolling numbers, with the snapshot date.

Owner-reported figures are used with care. Where used, Top10EV describes the sample size, the collection method and the caveats. Owner-reported figures are never presented as if they were controlled tests.

Where a named third-party publication or independent tester has published a test result relevant to a vehicle on Top10EV, Top10EV may cite the result with a link and describe the test protocol as published by the third party. Third-party test results are labelled as such and are not attributed to Top10EV.

Every vehicle record and every article has a 'Last verified' date. Prices and variant availability are re-verified at least monthly. Other specifications are re-verified when a manufacturer publishes an update, when a reader reports a discrepancy, or on the scheduled re-verification cycle for that content. Re-verification means opening the primary source, comparing it to the site content and either confirming the current text or issuing a correction.

Dealer social-media posts, non-attributed forum claims, promotional videos and other secondary marketing material are not accepted as primary sources. Where they suggest a change is imminent, we treat them as leads for further verification against a primary source, not as facts.
